ABOUT

In 2017, the Switzerland County Commissioners were approached by multiple residents due to the growing number of fatal drug overdoses in the county.  In June of 2017, the Commissioners, with assistance from the Community Foundation of Switzerland County, began hosting a series of monthly meetings to address those concerns.  At the first meeting, over 100 concerned citizens gathered to discuss the substance abuse issues facing the county, and the Drug Free Switzerland County Coalition was developed.

The various committees established by this group met to discuss the community needs, identify available resources and search for new programs that may be of benefit to the citizens of Switzerland County. As a result, in July of 2019, the Drug Free Switzerland County Coalition website was launched to provide a comprehensive list of local and area resources with respect to prevention, intervention, treatment and recovery/support services.

In 2022, this group evolved into the Switzerland County Drug Awareness Coalition, LCC, to further the efforts initiated in 2017.  The LCC was designed to identify community needs and maximize current resources in hopes of reducing the substance abuse epidemic through treatment and support services.

If you would like to attend a meeting and learn more about the LCC Coalition, meetings are held the 4th Wednesday of each month at noon in the lower level of the Technology Center (708 West Seminary Street, Vevay, Indiana) and are open to the public. If you would like to present information at the meeting, please contact Cheryl Burress Altepeter at
